I moved to online therapy years before the Pandemic*. Online counseling can feel very much like in-office counseling. Once the session starts, and we begin our work, the screen seems to melt away. As a therapist, I am giving you exactly what you would get from me if we were in a room together, and I make every effort on my end to convey that to you during our time together. I recommend taking some time upfront in order to facilitate your own therapeutic environment: Make sure you are in a quiet and private space (some people find their car is the only private space they can use and find it comfortable), Make sure you don’t have anything else scheduled for the hour, and you do not have interruptions. These things help ensure that you are having the same experience you would in a my office.
As a therapist, my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that you are proud of. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges and obstacles in your life. Deeper understanding brings with it a way out of anxiety and depression, finding useful tools, coping, choices, and goals.
Finding the fun and joy in life has almost become a thing of the past, something we used to do before Covid-19. But it doesn’t have to be. We need to take control, especially of our negative thoughts. Our circumstances planted these negative seeds, and we can reverse them with new realistic thoughts of hope. Ones that give us meaning and purpose.
